Maximizing Video Image Quality

If the system at the patient’s location (the Cart) has a handswitch or footswitch available for capturing the image (connected to the trigger input on the video capture card in the Cart), then the following example procedure can be used to maximize image quality:

Step 1:  Establish voice communications between the remote location and the assisting personnel at the Cart.

Step 2:  At the remote computer, select the smallest image resolution (240x180).

Step 3:  At the Cart, have the handswitch or footswitch in a convenient location for use by the assisting personnel.

Step 4:  The user at the remote computer watches the screen and guides the assisting personnel at the Cart in positioning the instrument.

Step 5:  When a good position and image has been obtained, the user at the remote computer instructs the assisting personnel to hold that position.

Step 6:  The user at the remote location switches to 640x480 image size.

Step 7:  The user at the remote location instructs the assisting personnel to press the handswitch to capture the desired image.

Note: If the instrument is held very still, the Cart’s computer will capture a good, high-resolution, still image for inclusion in the case. That image can then be viewed from the remote computer at full resolution because it is no longer a live video feed.
