CONSIDERING AFHCAN TELEHEALTH SERVICES?

TO PREPARE FOR SUCCESSFUL ADOPTION WITHIN YOUR CLINICAL WORKFLOW, YOU MAY WISH TO CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

HUMAN ASPECTS

1. How have you prepared your organization for telehealth? (For example, educating staff, discussing issues, identifying potential barriers, improving telecommunications, or preparing for implementation.)

2. How will you identify which locations, if you have multiple offices, are ready for telemedicine?

3. Does your medical staff desire telemedicine? What are their concerns?

4. Do all your locations have computers? E-mail capability? Internet access?


CLINICAL WORKFLOW

5. How do you anticipate telemedicine will change your current workflow and delivery of healthcare?

How do you plan to address these changes?

Will adequate time be available to allow providers to complete telemedicine referrals?

6. What are the referral patterns from your locations or within your organization?

Do they change for primary care or other specialties? (A diagram may be helpful.)

7. Is there other medical traffic to be considered?

If so, how is medical traffic (radio medical traffic; routine medical traffic, phone or fax consultation) currently handled by providers?

Does one provider cover multiple locations?

Does coverage change at night?

8. In a typical day, about how many patient encounters do you have at your locations?

How many encounters would involve consultations, review, or supervision?

9. How many of the above encounters would benefit from:

a) video otoscope b) digital camera c) ECG?

10. What present telemedicine equipment do you have?

How is it used by your staff?

How often is it used?

Are they comfortable with it?

Can it be used in conjuction with AFHCAN's products?

11. Specialty Clinics: Do you have specialty clinics?

If so, what are they?

12. For each clinic, you may wish to consider:

How many patients are seen per month?

Where do you refer patients outside your organization?

Approximately how many each month?

13. Where do outpatient charts flow in your facility (from provider, to front office, to medical records, to other departments, etc.)?

14. What coding or billing questions might you need to consider?

15. Do you have an individual or group on your staff who can be trained to teach other staff, e.g. "train-the-trainer"?

16. How can you provide staff the necessary time for training?
