   Who manages AFHCAN?

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) is the managing partner of AFHCAN. ANTHC is a tribal organization, as defined in 25 U.S.C. 450 (b) (c). It was formed in December 1997 to manage the statewide health services component of the Alaska Native Health system. ANTHC does so through participation with other Alaska Native tribal health organizations in the Alaska Tribal Health Compact, a self-governance agreement with the Indian Health Service. Furthermore, ANTHC operates the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) – the tertiary care facility for all Alaska Native beneficiaries. ANTHC and ANMC have an existing memorandum of understanding with participating regional health corporations such as Bristol Bay Health Corporation, Norton Sound Health Corporation, Maniilaq Health Corporation, and Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation to jointly provide quality care to the Native Alaskan community.
